MLB video highlights: Red Sox snap 10-game losing streak with 8-6 win

It’s finally over.

The Red Sox were able to snap their 10-game losing streak, the longest losing streak by a Red Sox team since 2004, with a 8-6 win over the Braves Monday afternoon in Atlanta.

Things didn’t look good for the Red Sox as starter Clay Buchholz once again didn’t have it for a fourth straight start as he allowed a career-high eight walks in 3+ innings of work, allowing six runs on four hits as he departed with the Red Sox trailing 6-1.

Fortunately for Buchholz and the Red Sox, their bats were able to bail them out as the Sox scored five times in the fifth inning, all coming with two outs. Dustin Pedroia had a clutch two-run single to left and then the next hitter David Ortiz ripped a two-run homer to left field tying the game at six and taking Buchholz off the hook.

The game was then delayed in the middle of the sixth for about an hour and a half due to rain, but the Red Sox continued their momentum by snapping the tie in the seventh inning with two runs, the first coming on an Ortiz sacrifice fly and the other on an A.J. Pierzynski single.

Due to the rain and National League rules with pitcher’s hitting, Red Sox relievers went just an inning each, but they were exceptional as Burke Badenhop, Chris Capuano, Edward Mujica (win),  Junichi Tazawa, Andrew Miller and Koji Uehara (save) combined for seven shutout innings.

The teams will wrap up their two games in Atlanta tomorrow night (7:00, NESN) with Jon Lester taking on Aaron Harang before traveling to Boston for two games Wednesday and Thursday.

What they’ll be saying: The Red Sox scored more than five runs for the first time since their losing streak began as they entered the game scoring just 2.6 runs a game during the skid. Their leaders were going to be the ones to help them snap the streak, which was exactly what happened as Pedroia and Ortiz delivered key hits in the fifth inning, which gave the club a lot of momentum … Even with the win it was another disappointing outing for Buchholz and it’s now a legitimate question whether or not he needs time away from the majors to work on his mechanics. Over his last four starts he’s allowed 33 hits and 17 earned runs over 18 innings for an ERA of 9.50 and the major leagues aren’t a place to be playing with mechanics, especially if you’re going to lose your control in the process.
