Clayton Kershaw’s no-hitter almost as good as Vin Scully’s call

The only thing better than hearing hall-of-fame announcer Vin Scully call Clayton Kershaw’s no hitter late Wednesday night would have been to be in the stands.

And thanks to this clip, (and the commentary of an enthusiastic fan with an hd video recorder) we can have that experience via youtube.

Click ahead to about six or seven minutes into this great clip, and hear the jubilation of the crowd as Kershaw strikes out his 15th hitter, the second most (to Nolan Ryan) in the history of baseball.

The Kershaw no-no is the second hitless game thrown this season, and the second by a Dodger. The first came against the Phillies back in may, tossed by Josh Beckett.

Just how good was the reigning Cy Young award winner’s game Wednesday? His game-score (according to Bill James’ formula) is 102, the second highest ever recorded (to only Kerry Wood’s 20 strikeout game).

Perhaps even more impressive than the game thrown by Kershaw, (and caught by A.J. Ellis) is the fact that Scully, the timeless Dodgers announcer whose banter between the action is more usually interesting than the game itself, has now called 19 no hitters in his career.

If you do the math, that means Scully has been at the microphone for seven percent of all the no hitters thrown in the history of Major League Baseball.

So what’s more impressive — Kershaw, or Scully?
