Celtics cruise past Cavaliers as ‘Gino’ returns

The Celtics are playing .500 ball since an embarrassing loss to Houston on Nov. 19, as they are 3-3 since the defeat. Friday night’s 103-86 win over the hapless Cavaliers at TD Garden, resembled the Rockets game in the opposite fashion for the Celtics as they owned an 18-2 lead to open the game.

Jeff Green was fabulous offensively for the C’s, leading the team with a season-high 31 points. Avery Bradley chipped in with 21 and Jordan Crawford recorded with his third career triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as he continued to improve at the point.

Kris Humphries had nine points off the bench for Boston.

The C’s held the 4-12 Cavs to just 10 points in the first quarter. Cleveland was led by Dion Waiters, who had 21 points off the bench.

What they’ll be saying: The Celtics had one of their more complete games of the season and the Garden crowd was even treated to the return of “Gino” on the jumbotron, the first time he has appeared in the non-Pierce/Garnett era.

The Cavs were thought to be one of the teams making a playoff run in the Eastern Conference this season, but through one month of the season, it’s the Celtics that are the early favorites to grab one of the conference’s lower playoff positions. As of Friday, the C’s held the No. 8 playoff position in the East while the Cavs currently have the third worst record in the conference.
