Nets Notebook: Jason Kidd says he’s reading Lawrence Frank’s reports

It has been a week since Nets head coach Jason Kidd “re-assigned” Lawrence Frank from his role of lead assistant to report writer.

Since then, all sorts of things have come out about the relationship between the two, including a website devoted to producing fake reports that has drawn laughter throughout the league.

The latest information to emerge was a report on NBA.com about how Kidd used a 13-letter profanity to make a point about who was in charge early in November.

“Sit the (bleep) down! I’m the coach of this (13-letter word) team! When you’re on the bench, don’t (bleeping) move!”

Kidd declined to get into the nature of his relationship with Frank, whom he played for between January 2004 to February 2008. Instead, it produced another awkward exchange similar to last week at practice when he was asked about the specifics of the “daily reports.”

“Unfortunately, I haven’t read anything [pertaining to the NBA.com story],” Kidd said. “I’ve been focused on the game plan and playing Boston. Unfortunately I can’t answer that question.

“I’ve been reading the reports and that’s as far as it’s gone.”

Multiple reports have stated he has hired a legal team to help him negotiate a buyout from the Nets.

Rivers chimes in on Pierce, Garnett

The official reunion for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett against former head coach Doc Rivers won’t take place until Thursday’s game against the Clippers.

That has not stopped Rivers from talking about the two biggest players to help him win a championship five years ago.

Among the topics broached in an interview with bleacherreport.com’s Howard Beck Monday in Philadelphia was the minutes limit placed on Pierce and Garnett.

“He can score anywhere,” Rivers said. “I think he was more uncomfortable with the short minutes that they were [playing him], like they did with Kevin. And that’s not Paul. Paul doesn’t work under those type of minutes — at least, in my opinion he doesn’t. He’s a guy that needs a rhythm to play. In Kevin’s case, on a 20-minute restriction, of course his numbers are going to be down. So I think at some point, he probably is going to have to play more minutes to improve, so he can get a better rhythm himself.”

Kidd has been playing Garnett 22.7 minutes and Pierce 29.1 minutes. Last year, Garnett was at 29.7 minutes (his lowest total since averaging 28.7 as a rookie with Minnesota in 1995-96) while Pierce was at a career-low 33.4 minutes.

Kidd declined to give in to the controversy in his response to Rivers’ assertion.

“That’s Doc’s opinion,” Kidd said. “I respect that opinion but minutes restrictions are due to games being out of reach. That’s Doc’s opinion and I respect that.”
