Analyze this: Rajon Rondo to do color commentary on Celtics broadcast

Rajon Rondo will be sitting out of Monday night’s game against Chicago , but that doesn’t mean you won’t see (or hear) him on Monday night.

Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will be showcasing some other talents this coming Monday night when his team visits the Chicago Bulls.

Rondo will provide color commentary alongside Comcast SportsNet’s Mike Gorman for the first quarter of the game, as Rondo is scheduled to sit out of the game (which is the second of a back-to-back) as he recovers from ACL surgery.

Rondo approached the network first, and the idea quickly took off. Coach Brad Stevens also encouraged the notion, saying, “It should be good insight.”

Stevens then added, “He knows he can’t give too much insight. We’ll go over all the rules on Monday in pretty good detail.”

Stevens continued, “He’ll be really good. People will be really interested to hear what he has to say. I think it’s great that he’s interested in doing that. He’s a guy that, he understands the big picture of — right now he’s a professional basketball player, but in 10-12 years he won’t be. And so what does he do from there? These are all great opportunities for him to grow and maybe find something that down the road that he likes to do.”

There has been a rotating cast of color commentators all season for CSN, as long-time color guy and Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn has not been traveling to cover games. Some of the guest commentators have included ESPN Boston’s Jackie MacMullan, Grantland’s Bill Simmons, former coach and studio analyst P.J. Carlesimo, Celtics legend Dave Cowens, and former Celtic and current radio analyst Cedric Maxwell – who will call the other three quarters of Monday night’s game.
