Celtics comeback bid falls short in loss to Raptors

Trailing by 12 entering the fourth quarter, the Celtics came back to make it a game, tying it at 103 with 28 seconds remaining, but Amir Johnson’s jumper with seven seconds was the game-winner in the Raptors’ 105-103 win Friday night. The C’s have now lost eight of their last nine games.

Jerryd Bayless paced the Celtics with 20 points off the bench in the loss. Jeff Green led the starters with 16 points, while Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley each had 11 points in the loss. After trailing by just three at the half, the Celtics were outscored by nine in the third quarter, but came out furious in the fourth to take a 101-97 lead with just over three minutes remaining, but couldn’t hold on to complete the comeback.

DeMar DeRozen had a game-high 30 points for the Raptors as they were able to clinch a playoff spot with the win.

The Celtics will be back in action Sunday night (7:00, CSNNE) at home against the Bulls.

What they’ll be saying: For the first time in a long while the Celtics shot a better percentage from the field than their opponent as the C’s shot 53 percent, to the Raptors 47, but it wasn’t enough. Even though there are no moral victories, the team continues to battle in every game and even when they were behind they fought back to made it a game in the final quarter.
