Rajon Rondo talks potential Kevin Love trade to Celtics, meeting Love at Fenway

The “Summer of Love” in Boston began with a big social media bang this past weekend as a photo of current Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo greeting Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love at Sunday’s Red Sox-Rays game at Fenway Park created quite an Internet buzz.

Love is said to want out of Minnesota as his agent told the T’Wolves recently that his client will flee after next season if he is not traded. Love would become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Boston has been mentioned as a top destination for Love as Celtics president Danny Ainge holds assets in the form of nine first round draft picks over the next five seasons as well as several young, talented players.

Rondo spoke to reporters Monday about meeting Love outside the EMC Club at Fenway on Sunday:

“The only pitch that was thrown, I think, was [Red Sox pitcher] Jon Lester,” Rondo joked when asked if he was openly recruiting Love to come to Boston. “I didn’t pitch anything. I just told him to enjoy his time here.”

Rondo claimed that he didn’t know Love was at Fenway until after the game had started and that it was a coincidence that the two were at the game on the same day.

“When I saw Kevin, I spoke to him,” Rondo told ESPN. “I wished him good luck here – his time [visiting] Boston. He spent a couple days here. I told him I was spending a couple months here.”

The C’s point guard, who has been part of several trade rumors himself over the years, touched on how Love could potentially help Boston.

“I think we’d be a lot better if you add a guy like Kevin,” Rondo told ESPN. “He’s a range-shooting 4, he’s going to help on the glass. Obviously we haven’t been the best on the glass the past few years … But this is all speculation.
