See renderings of the Nets new training center in Brooklyn
The Nets won’t have much to talk about Thursday night with no picks in the NBA Draft, but they held a press conference Thursday morning to announce a new training center. And they’ll be making themselves home in Brooklyn.
Construction on the facility will begin this summer and is expected to be ready for use ahead of the 2015-16 NBA season.
The new facility will be located in Sunset Park at 149 39th Street, about three miles south of the Barclays Center, and in a warehouse in Industry City.
The team has trained in East Rutherford, New Jersey since 1998.
The facility will officially be named the Hospital for Special Surgery Training Center, which will become the hospital of the Nets. The Hospital for Special Surgery is already the official hospital for the New York Giants, New York Mets, New York Knicks, New York Liberty and New York Red Bulls.
“You look at the practice facility, you look at Barclays Center and what the franchise stands for — which is first class,” Nets head coach Jason Kidd said Thursday.
The 70,000-square-foot facility will have two full basketball courts, one full swimming pool, two hydro pools, a theater, weight room and lounge space. It will also house the offices for the coaching staff and front office, including general manager Billy King and Kidd.
