Patriots shore up secondary with Wilson, Talib signings

Adrian Wilson gives the Patriots much-needed help in the secondary.

While it seems the Patriots have taken a step back on the offensive side of the ball given that Wes Welker fled to Denver this week, they have seemingly taken a step forward on defense with the news this weekend that they have agreed to terms with free agent safety Adrian Wilson and re-signed cornerback Aqib Talib.

The 33-year-old Wilson is a four-time NFL All-Pro and could be a Rodney Harrison-like presence in the Patriots secondary in 2013 and beyond. Albert Breer, of NFL Network, reported that Wilson’s deal was for three years.

Saturday, the Patriots reportedly inked Talib, who solidified the Pats secondary down the stretch in 2012 but was injured early in the AFC Championship Game loss to Baltimore. Talib reportedly signed a one-year deal with New England worth $5 million, according to Breer.

New England also signed cornerback Kyle Arrington to a four-year deal Friday reportedly worth $16 million.

Wilson has 27 career interceptions, two of which were returned for TDs. Here is the NC State product in action from his years in Arizona:
