Jets’ Mike Goodson out for season with torn MCL, ACL

A struggling Jets offense got worse on Monday morning with the news that running back Mike Goodson is out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL.

Goodson returned to the Jets last week after he spent the first four games of the season suspended for this past summer’s arrest on drugs and weapons charges. Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh was his second game back.

His absence is a crippling blow to a ground game that struggled in a 19-6 loss to the Steelers. The running backs accounted for just 75 rushing yards. Goodson had four carries for 29 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with the injury.

Goodson announced the news on Twitter, writing, “MRI Shows that I Tore My MCL and ACL yesterday?….. Not to happy right now But Everything Happens for a reason!”

Head coach Rex Ryan confirmed he is out for the season.

“I think we all saw what we were so excited about, the kind of explosiveness that young man possesses,” Ryan said.

Goodson’s injury comes at a time when the Jets need to establish the ground game, especially after fellow running back Bilal Powell injured his shoulder against the Steelers.

Despite the rough game game against the Steelers, the Jets are still in the top half in the league with the No. 11 rushing offense.

Speculation has linked the Jets to interest in Joe McKnight, who was cut by the team at the tail end of preseason. He signed with the Packers but was also cut. A source close to the team tells Metro that the Jets haven’t reached out to McKnight at this juncture and called such interest “probably a bit unlikely given some off the field concerns.”
