Hakeem Nicks back on practice field after mysterious injury

Hakeem Nicks planned to put an injury-riddled 2012 behind him when he stepped on the field this season.

Instead, it’s been more of the same for the ultra-talented, but oft-injured, wide receiver. Nicks was back in a limited role on the practice field on Thursday and said he plans to play against the Cowboys. The mysterious abdomen injury that landed him on the sidelines at Wednesday’s practice has apparently cleared up — even if head coach Tom Coughlin isn’t entirely clear on what the issue was in the first place.

“They say it’s better to explain it as an abdominal, whatever that means,” Coughlin said, referring to a diagnosis by the training staff. “I don’t know when it occurred. As far as I know, it came up and he reported in on Wednesday with something.”

The Giants need all hands on deck against a Cowboys offense which is fifth in the league in scoring (27.4 points per game).

When asked if he would play Sunday, Nicks delivered a nonchalant, “It’s Dallas, man.”

“I don’t think it’s going to be anything like that that bothers me,” Nicks said.

But he would not specify exactly what was keeping him limited and delivered a cryptic reference to his agent, something sure to bother the Giants. Nicks is a free agent after the season.

“It has just been something all year really, on and off,” Nicks said. “I was advised by my agent just to get it checked up a bit so that’s all we did. We just wanted to get it checked up and make sure everything was good. I got good feedback and everything was fine.”
