Santonio Holmes gruff with media following limited practice
Don’t worry about Santonio Holmes for this Sunday in Baltimore, despite the fact the injury-plagued wide receiver didn’t practice on Wednesday and was limited on Thursday. He’s fine and and he doesn’t want to talk about it.
No, he really doesn’t want to talk about it.
Holmes, whose sessions with the media have become confrontational this year as his performance on the field has declined, downplayed his absence yesterday and his limited work on Thursday presumably due to a hamstring injury. Head coach Rex Ryan said Holmes was limited in practice on Thursday and when asked if he’d play against the Ravens, the wide receiver responded with “Why wouldn’t I?”
“Exactly what coach said, I was limited,” Holmes said. “What else do you want me to tell you?”
He was asked to put a percentage on how he feels, given his lack of full participation this week.
“We don’t have those, we don’t have percentages,” Holmes said. “We have performances.”
It is safe to say with 100 percent certainty that Holmes is miffed with the media right now.
The questions came as he missed the early portion of practice, but Ryan said he was able to do some things further along in practice.
“I know he was limited in that [media session] for sure. I know he did some things,” Ryan said. “I know he did some team reps.”
Holmes will be needed if fellow wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is out. Kerley, the team’s leading receiver with 28 catches for 347 yards, dislocated his elbow in Week 9 and did not play last Sunday against the Bills.
Thursday represented a second straight practice where Kerley was able to practice on a limited basis, even if that included just making one-handed grabs. But Ryan would not say if he is going to play.
“We’ll see. The fact that he’s out there, running around, we’ll see how it goes,” Ryan said. “I know he’s following protocol without using that arm. Maybe tomorrow he’ll be able to use it, I’m not sure.”
