Mark Sanchez ditches cornrows at charity appearance

Hair today, gone tomorrow.

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez made his first public appearance on Tuesday since season-ending shoulder surgery in early October but he did so without the cornrow look he sported earlier this week. The always fashionable Sanchez had a photo appear on Instagram on Monday where he sported cornrows. It was a decision as bad as the Jets offense has been this season.

The cornrows were payment for a bet he lost, with his hair styled at the house of Willie Colon, the Jets starting right guard. Colon often sports a similar look.

“I can’t go into too many details about it. Definitely wasn’t about football, promise you that,” Sanchez said when asked about the wager. “It was something that was I was going to have to pay up in a different way. I was going to have to cut all my hair off so I had to figure out something and I wasn’t going to dye it. Those were also options. So I went over to Willie’s and got my cornrow game on. It was pretty bad; it was ugly. I’m glad that I paid up and it’s over.”

Sanchez spoke prior to serving meals to the homeless at the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, N.J., located minutes from the team’s facility. He said he continues to rehab his surgically repaired shoulder so that he will be ready for offseason workouts.

During preseason, Sanchez created a buzz when he sported a headband during interviews. He also sported a fu manchu mustache this preseason and his GQ cover appearance two years ago drew similar heat for some questionable fashion decisions.

The cornrows, he admits, didn’t last long.

“It was going to get worse. I had them for a day and a half, two days,” Sanchez said. “As soon as I could get them out, I did.”
