Source: Ben Kotwica leaves Jets to join Redskins
After one year as special teams coordinator, the Jets have lost Ben Kotwica to the Redskins, a source tells Metro New York.
Kotwica, who was linked with the head coaching vacancy at Army late last year, is bound for a lateral move as a special teams coordinator to the Redskins a league source tells Metro.
Kotwica took over for Mike Westhoff as special teams coordinator following the conclusion of the 2012 season. He interviewed very well, the source said, even if he doesn’t have much of a body of work with the Jets.
The Jets were No. 18 in the league last year in kick return yards and No. 15 in punt return yards. The play of the unit was seen as average from many outsiders.
Before he started his coaching career, Kotwica played his college football at West Point and served in the Army including during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
