Mike Goodson appears unlikely to be with Jets going forward

Over the course of the year Mike Goodson has spent with the Jets, he had seven carries for 61 yards in two games. He also had one suspension of four games, one season-ending knee injury and one arrest.

Those are not the type of numbers which would make him a likely candidate to return to the team.

Facing an uphill legal battle for his arrest last summer on drug and weapon charges, Goodson has been a no show so far at organized team activities. The Jets don’t seem to even know what he’s doing.

In other words, it’s not likely he will be back.

“The thing I know in this camp, it’s voluntary. Right, so he hasn’t been here,” Ryan said. “He volunteered not to be here and I’ll volunteer to not answer the question.

“The way this is, it is voluntary workouts. Personal things come up for different players. You see there’s a few guys that weren’t here today that are normally out here. It’s the way it’s set up. It’s voluntary. Do I like guys being here? Of course.”

Goodson was supposed to be a change of pace in the backfield with good speed and the ability to play on special teams. He showed some promise in his two games last year, but a knee injury cut the season short.

Now he could be facing potential prison time.

“[The Jets] will hold onto Goodson until things become clearer on the legal side,” a team source said. “There’s no reason to release him now. It’s really a wait and see at this juncture.”

As for his rehab from that injury, the Jets aren’t talking about Goodson’s status. He was seen late in the season in the locker room after rehab stints, a clear sign he was under their care. Since then, it appears he has fallen off the Jets’ radar.

“We haven’t seen him, so I can’t answer that question,” Ryan said of Goodson’s recovery progress.
