Nick Foles not worried about getting paid

He’s the Eagles’ starting quarterback, and on the verge of becoming a big star in the NFL.

But after his Pro Bowl and record-setting season in 2013, Nick Foles is set to make just $615,000 in 2014 as he remains locked into his rookie contract.

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who was drafted one year earlier, just signed a six year, $126 million pact with the 49ers.

“I was happy for him,” Foles said. “He’s played really well. I followed him in college when he was at Nevada. I was excited to see him able to provide for his family.”

Foles had a monster season last year and will likely be at the negotiating table sometime soon, with just two years remaining on his rookie contract. But following team activities at Eagles’ OTAs earlier this week, the former third-rounder told reporters that the size of his bank account was the last thing on his mind.

“I have always said how I play, how I am as a leader will take care of itself when the time comes,” Foles said. “I am having fun out here, having fun with my teammates, having fun playing this game. We are working hard out here on the field. There are so many times when a career is just cut short. If I am fortunate to get to that point down the road I will be thankful.”

His resume is impressive, but it is still short. Foles is, if nothing else, a down-to-earth kind of guy. And he knows he still has to prove himself as an NFL quarterback.

“You get a contract like that because you’ve shown you can be that guy for the franchise,” the Arizona product said. “I have to continue to prove that each and every day. When I am playing out there there is no dollar sign on me when I am throwing a ball. I have to throw it to the best of my ability.”

Lucky for Foles, he has a great group of weapons, and a very capable offensive line to help him earn his next deal, whenever Foles and the Eagles sit down to make a deal.

“The more we play together the more we build chemistry,” Foles said of his teammates on offense. “We are definitely growing in our offense and growing with our chemistry. We lost a couple guys but we have a good group. The more reps I get with these guys throughout their careers the better.”

The Birds have a new No. 2 wide receiver in Jordan Matthews, and Foles is already feeling in sync with the second-round draft pick.

“I love him,” Foles said. “I think he’s a great addition to this team and doing a great job.”
