Rex Ryan has no problems with Calvin Pryor slamming Patriots

Rex Ryan likes what he sees in Jets first-round pick Calvin Pryor. He also likes what he hears.

Last week, Pryor made headlines for his comments in a television interview where he said he hated the Patriots and crosstown Giants.

“You respect everybody you play against but you don’t like them,” Ryan said. “They’re trying to take something away from you, they’re trying to take victory away from you — and all that hard work and everything you put into it. Having a dislike for them sometimes is a good thing. I know my brother is on the opposite sideline. I love him, but on game day, I can’t stand him. He’s trying to take something from you. And that’s kind of the mentality we take. I think Pryor understands that.”

Ryan teased that Pryor’s mindset is “something I don’t know where he got that from” but got serious in saying the Patriots are the team to beat given their success.

Pryor’s remarks were bold talk from a rookie who has yet to play an NFL game.

“That’s good, so he’s building up on it,” Ryan said. “Always know who the enemy is.”

Jets notes …

» Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley did not practice on Wednesday in organized team activities, with Ryan saying he had “a personal thing he’s dealing with.”

» Dee Milliner did some work with the team Wednesday, although it wasn’t much. He spent much of the early portion of the day working with the training staff. Ryan said that it wasn’t a hamstring injury for the former first-round pick, just something they wanted to be careful with.

» Running back Mike Goodson was a no-show yet again as he continues to battle legal issues. Ryan said he expects to see Goodson at next week’s minicamp.

“It’s a mandatory thing so I would expect him,” Ryan said.

When asked if he’s been in contact with the player, Ryan simply responded, “I’ve not.”
