Ray Emery steps up in Flyers’ Game 2 win
Sure, he allowed two goals in the Rangers’ first four shots Sunday afternoon, but it’s about how you start, not how you finish.
Filling in for injured Flyers goalie Steve Mason for the second straight game, Ray Emery saved 27 straight shots down the stretch to clinch a Flyers win in Game 2.
“He’s a battler and always has been,” Craig Berube said. “I’ve known Ray for awhile, we had him here before. He stays with it. He’s very good at that. He’s a true pro.”
Prior to Thursday’s start, Emery had played in just six playoff games in the last seven seasons. But there were no nerves Sunday — just results.
Now it’s back to Philadelphia where the Flyers look to use their home ice advantage to get a series lead.
“They had home ice in the series; it’s a tough place to come into,” Emery said. “We knew our building equally as tough to come into so we’re happy to split and now we’ll refocus going back home.”
The Flyers showed their true colors in their comeback victory in enemy territory Sunday.
“It’s something we’ve tried to pride ourselves in all year, playing with some character,” Luke Schenn said. “Guys just kept chipping away like we have been all year.”
