NHL video highlights: Bruins edge Red Wings in overtime of Game 4

The Bruins took the Red Wings’ best punch right out of the gate Thursday night. For Detroit, the swing just wasn’t good enough as the Bruins clamped down a 3-2 overtime victory and a 3-1 series lead at Joe Louis Arena in Game 4 and the B’s now have the opportunity to eliminate the Red Wings Saturday at TD Garden in Game 5 (3 p.m., NBC).

The B’s banged on the door multiple times in OT and eventually wore the Red Wings’ defense down. Jarome Iginla was credited with the game-winner as the puck originally came off of his stick before bouncing around the vicinity of Milan Lucic and Detroit defenders in front of the net.

Boston came from two goals down to grab the victory.

Lucic knotted the game, 2-2, just 1:15 into the third when he took a pretty backhand feed from Carl Soderberg and slammed it home at the top of the crease.

Momentum was clearly shifting in Boston’s favor as the game wore on and the B’s may not have even had to go to the extra session had Brad Marchand been able to score on an absolute gimme midway through the third period.

The Bruins began chipping away at the Detroit lead in the second period when Torey Krug sent a rifling shot from just in front of the blue line past Detroit netminder Jonas Gustavsson.

The Red Wings squandered a fabulous game from Gustavsson, who made 40 saves in defeat. Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask was equally as impressive, making 37 saves, including a gorgeous deflection of a Justin Abdelkader shot a minute into overtime.

What they’ll be saying: Conventional wisdom says that this series is over. The Bruins got the Red Wings’ best Thursday and still found a way to win.

Game 5s have been tricky for the Bruins, however. Last year, for instance, they played three Game 5s and went 1-2. They lost to Toronto in a Game 5 after being up 3-1, eliminated New York in a Game 5 after being up 3-1 and lost to Chicago in a Game 5 with the series tied.
