SEPTA suspended service for more than three hours to parts of its Broad Street Line, and more than an hour for its its Broad Ridge Spur and three Regional Rail lines today due to a gas leak in the area of the Fernrock Transportation Center in North Philadelphia.

PGW spokesman Doug Oliver said the gas leak is under control, but the cause is still under investigation. Residents around North 10th Street and Nedro Avenue were temporarily evacuated when the gas leak was first reported at about 9 a.m.

SEPTA Spokeswoman Andrew Bush said the first service disruption began at 8:51 a.m. on the Broad Street Line. Shuttle buses were made available for travelers on the Broad Street Line Southbound from Fernrock to Olney and Northbound from Erie to Fernrock. Both lines resumed service around 12:50 p.m.

The Regional Rail Lansdale/Doylestown, Warminster and West Trenton lines were disrupted for more than an hour.

A total of 157 SEPTA employees working at the Fernrock station were temporarily evacuated to a shelter at a church across the street.
