The search for a 41-year-old man who fell off a ferry into the Boston Harbor as it headed back to Boston from Provincetown on Saturday has been suspended.

At 5:30 p.m. Sunday night, it was announced that  an area of more than 151 square nautical miles was searched by the Coast Guard along with Boston Police and firefighters with no sign of the man, the Coast Guard told WCVB.

Michael Glasfeld, owner of Bay State Cruises, previously said in a statement that interviews with other boat riders “appear at this point to indicate that the gentleman had been engaging in horseplay when he fell from the vessel,” WCVB reported.

The Coast Guard was notified that a man fell into the harbor from the Provincetown II ferry near Castle Island around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. He was aboard the ship with his girlfriend, and was apparently trying to climb the third deck railing when he plunged into the water, according to a statement from Bay State Cruise Company, which operates the Provincetown II, the Globe reported.

Several other boat riders attempted to persuade the man to get off the railing.

The Provincetown II was carrying 370 passengers and 21 staff.
