Beverly students suspended after ‘suggestive’ video of female classmate circulated

A group of Beverly high school and middle school students have been suspended after a “suggestive” video of a female classmate started to make its way around school.

The video was originally shot by the female student last year when she was in eighth grade, and sent to her then boyfriend. When they broke up, he began circulating the video among his friends.

“We got rumors of the video within the school community, and as soon as we found out we worked with students, families and authorities because of the serious potential of video like that,” Beverly High Principal Sean Gallagher told WBZ.

According to the Salem News, students who watched the video once and deleted it were suspended for one day, while those who passed it along to others were suspended for three days. The girl in the video and her ex-boyfriend were both suspended and provided with counseling. The school system is also offering counseling to the rest of the students.

The school system is using the opportunity to emphasize a “Look Before you Send” policy when it comes to social media among students.

“We want our students to take a step back and think before they send. Because once something is sent, you can never get it back,” Gallagher said.
