I disagree with letter writer Tim Riker’s response. There is no such evidence that overweight people can perform the same tasks as healthy, in-shape people. Many people are diagnosed with arthritis, a disease that still does not have a distinct cause.
However, it is the obligation of the employees to notify their employer that they no longer can perform the tasks they stated they could perform in writing when they filled out an application. Healthy people should not share a burden, they have the right to work with people who are also healthy.
An employer should have the right to address any health risks that might jeopardize the productivity of their workplace.
