Bars with haunted spirits for Halloween in Philly
Provided

We’re leaving the candy to the kiddies this Halloween as we hunt for the city’s best grown-up treats. Several of Philadelphia’s favorite haunts are serving up cocktails inspired by the season.

The Icabod, Pub & Kitchen

Ingredients: Dark spiced rum, brown sugar, apple, nutmeg and angostura bitters come together for a drink more autumnal than a pumpkin spice latte.

It’s punchy: “The Ichabod is our take on holiday punch, like the ones kids go bobbing for apples in,” says owner Ed Hackett. “Obviously their punch isn’t spiked, but ours is and it’s really good. It’s got really nice notes of spice and we even put an apple in it – just a slice – if anyone wants to dive in.”

Sympathy for the Devil, Bardot

Ingredients Bulliet rye, Goslings dark rum, housemade spiced syrup, grenadine and angostura bitters, served up in a martini glass and garnished with a red apple wheel floating on top.

Spice it up: “Sympathy for the Devil is a perfect cocktail for the fall and winter months. It’s a combination of sultry dark rum and rye with passionate winter spice that will indulge your senses,” says Bardot bartender Scott Layne.

Room 237, P.O.P.E.

Ingredients: Voyant chai cream liqueur, Stoli vanilla vodka, and cinnamon. It’s shaken and strained over ice.

Jack Nicholson-approved: “The cocktail was chosen because we wanted to do something sweet, unique and seasonal,” says manager and head bartender John Warner. “The combination of the cinnamon and the chai is reminiscent of spiced pumpkin pie. Vanilla vodka is like the whipped cream on top. The name, Room 237, is a reference to the haunted room in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.”

The Pumpkin Bumpkin, Tattooed Mom

Ingredients: Pumpkin, Art in the Age Root liquor, Guiness stout, Fireball whiskey, milk, and nutmeg make for a powerful fall cocktail.

Soulful sip: “We wanted to come up with a fun, current cocktail for the fall season,” says Robert Perry, co-owner. “We wanted to use a local spirit and decided on Art in the Age Root because it has a great fall flavor. It’s a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, and it has a very delicious soul.”

Booze-less

Candy Corn Milkshake, Joe’s Steaks + Soda Shop

Ingredients: Basically, your childhood. The key to this booze-free treat is the four scoops of housemade candy corn ice cream.

Treat, don’t trick: “Each month we like to shake things up by offering seasonally themed milkshakes, and this fall was no exception,”says GM Stefani Mahoney. “The Candy Corn shake is the perfect way to get fun and festive this Halloween season.”
