Century-old citizens honored

Some of these people grew up without refrigerators.

They lived before World War I, during the Great Depression, in times most of us have only read about in history books.

On Thursday, Mayor Michael Nutterhonored residents aged over 100 at the 15th Annual Centenarians Celebration.

The oldest male and female attending the event wereEli P Zebooker, 102, and Fannie Mae Ausby, 108.

According to the city, “Ausby resides inWynnefield section andis a passionate gardenerwho owned her own farm in Georgia during the Second World War. She enjoys music, John Wayne movies, travel and soul food.”

“Zebooker is a former Center City dentist, avid reader, longtime collector of Philadelphia maps and a Second World War veteran. Dr. Zebooker has been married to his wife, Janet, for 67 years.”
