An officer who was critically injured during a gun battle in Chester, Pennsylvania, is in recovery, PennLive reported.

The gunfight began after officers attempted to stop a car that matched the description of one that had been reported stolen. Officers were reportedly fired at and then fired back, killing one and injuring another in the car.

Those shot and arrested have not been identified by authorities.

Capt. Alan Davis, who has reportedly been serving on the force for at least 25 years, was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center in critical condition on Saturday, ABC News reported.

On Sunday it was announced he was recovering.

Now Chester Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland is asking for the community to remain calm and vowed to have a transparent investigation into the incident.

“We’re asking the Chester community once again to practice restraint, practice patience and understanding,” Kirkland said.
