Close but no cigar for St. Joe’s, which falls late against Oregon

St. Joseph’s threw a great scare into Oregon, the No. 1 seed in the West Region, late Sunday nightbut two final minute turnovers did not allow the Hawks to pull off the upset as they fell, 69-64.

DeAndre Bembry’sfree throw with 1:37 left in regulation actually gave St. Joe’s the lead, 62-61, but a shot clock violation and a sequence in which Bembry lost control of the basketball ultimately doomed the boys from Philly.

St. Joe’s, an 8 seed, finished their season with a record of 28-8.

Bembry led St. Joe’s in scoring Sunday, pumping in 16 points. Phenomenal Oregon sophomore Dillon Brooks led the Ducks with 25.
