Wednesday Gossip roundup: George Clooney admits he’s not dad material

Actor George Clooney arrives at the 84th Annual Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon California.

An attorney for Russell Brand reportedly filed finalized divorce papers in Los Angeles this week, according to TMZ. And although Brand and Katy Perry reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement — meaning Brand could easily go after half of the fortune Perry earned during their 14-month marriage — sources say the British comedian has no intention of going after her money. “This divorce is as amicable as it gets,” one source tells the Web site. According to Forbes magazine, Perry earned $44 million between May 2010 and May 2011.

Zooey Deschanel would just like to say, for the record, that the stories about Brand sending her flirty text messages and angling to get to know her both personally and professionally are bogus. “I don’t even know him, by the way,” she said during a visit to “the View,” where she was quizzed on the rumors. “On the scale of truth and completely preposterous, it’s completely preposterous,” Deschanel insisted.

Jennifer Aniston
isn’t necessarily naming names, but she says her past romantic experiences have taught her a lot about what she doesn’t want and what she won’t settle for. “Having experienced everything you don’t want in a partner over time, it starts to narrow down to what you actually do want,” Aniston tells InStyle magazine. “As I get older, I realize what qualities are important in love and what suits me. And what I won’t settle for.” And she certainly feels that boyfriend Justin Theroux suits her just fine. “First of all, he has great style — it’s very specific, and it has been his style forever,” she says of Theroux. “Has it influenced mine? No, but I know people say it has. ‘Oh, look, you’re dressing alike.’ And I think, No I’m not. I’ve had this jacket for three years!”

George Clooney does not consider himself dad material, based on his past experiences with children — both at work and at home. “I’ve played a parent quite a few times and I worked with a lot of kids on ‘ER,’” Clooney says at an Oscar nominees luncheon. “A lot of the child actors had over-moussed hair, and one little s— wouldn’t even rehearse with me.” And then there was the time he tried to entertain some friends’ kids at his house with a classic film: “I love the 1962 drama ‘To Kill A Mockingbird,’ and I put it on in my screening room for them, but all the children began complaining it was in black and white and would be boring,” “So I said to them, ‘Shut the f— up!’ That’s why I shouldn’t be a parent.”

Robert Downey Jr. and wife Susan Downey welcomed their first child, a boy, early Tuesday morning, his rep confirms to People magazine. “Everyone is healthy and they couldn’t be happier,” the rep’s statement reads. “Exton Elias Downey, who, yes, sounds like he was named after a major oil and gas company, weighed in at 7lb 5oz and measured 20 inches long.” Downey also has an 18-year-old son, Indio, from a previous marriage.

Simon Cowell is taking on some of the blame for the perceived lackluster performance of the American “X Factor,” claiming his natural boastfulness worked against him. “It’s only because I opened my big mouth and said we were going to get 20 million [viewers]. If I hadn’t said that, everybody would be saying the show was a huge success,” Cowell says, according to Hollyscoop. As for replacing excused judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, Cowell shoots down rumors about new moms Beyonce and Mariah Carey being considered and explains that Madonna would be “expensive” — but Katy Perry would be “fun” and “feisty.”
