D’Avonte Meadows: First grader suspended for sexual harassment

D’Avonte Meadows: "I'm sexy and I know it."

A first grade student at Aurora Elementary in Aurora, Colorado was slapped with a three-day suspension for sexual harassment after he recited a line from a LMFAO song.

D’Avonte Meadows said he was standing in the lunch line next to a girl in his class when he said it: “I’m sexy and I know it.”

Yep, those venomous words are no laughing matter at Aurora Elementary and Meadows was promptly disciplined.

“I only just said the song,” D’Avonte Meadows told 7NEWS in Denver. “I’m sexy and I know it.”

“I could understand if he was fondling her, looking up her skirt, trying to look in her shirt. That, to me, is sexual harassment,” said Stephanie Meadows, the boy’s mother. “I’m just, I’m floored. They’re going to look at him like he’s a pervert. And it’s like, that’s not fair to him.”

But could there be more to this story? Stephanie Meadows admitted that this is not the first time her son has been in trouble with school officials. In fact, this isn’t the first time that very LMFAO lyric has landed him in hot water. Just last month, D’Avonte approached the same girl and said “I’m sexy and I know it” to her then, too. That time, though, he was “shaking his booty” near the girl’s face, according to his mother.

“I think it’s kind of overwhelming. You know, sexual harassment on a six year old?” she said. “I don’t understand. You know. Kids are kids.”

Kids are kids, indeed. But little D’Avonte, who has already been accused of sexual harassment by age 6, is certainly having a tough time learning the rules of flirting. It’s pretty sad that something silly a child did has led him to this kind of discipline. But we’re sure in a couple years, D’Avonte’s will better understand that men cannot go around shaking their booties in women’s faces, even if they are sexy and they do know it.
