Few tweaks to Fox’s fall TV schedule

Mindy Kaling's "The Mindy Project," about an OB/GYN trying to figure out her professional and private life, will air Tuesdays this fall on Fox.

Fox has been the No. 1 broadcast network for eight seasons — so overhauling the primetime schedule isn’t exactly part of the 2012-2013 plan. The network announced the addition of just one new drama and two new comedies to the fall lineup before its upfront presentation to advertisers today.

Most anticipated is “The Mindy Project” from “The Office” star Mindy Kaling, who will play a successful OB/GYN trying to balance work and life. The second new sitcom, “Ben and Kate,” follows two polar-opposite siblings. Both new comedies will air on Tuesdays, rounding out a sitcom block with returning shows “Raising Hope” and “New Girl.”

Fox’s only new drama for fall is “The Mob Doctor,” starring Jordana Spiro as a surgeon tied to the mob through family debts.

Fox will debut two new series mid-season: The comedy “The Goodwin Games,” from “How I Met Your Mother” creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, about siblings vying for their father’s inheritance; and the thriller “The Following,” starring Kevin Bacon as an ex-FBI agent tracking a serial killer (James Purefoy).

Returning series to the Fox lineup next season include “Bones,” “Raising Hope,” “New Girl,” “The X Factor,” “American Idol,” “Glee,” which moves to Thursdays, “Touch,” “Fringe,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Kitchen Nightmares,” “Masterchef,” “Mobbed,” “American Dad,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “The Cleveland Show,” “Cops,” “Family Guy,” “The Simpsons” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”
