Kanye West’s Jimmy Kimmel interview is very Kanye West

Is anyone out there surprised that this Kanye West interview on Jimmy Kimmel last night devolved into a soapbox from which Yeezy delivered yet another lengthy, rambling, self-aggrandizing diatribe/sermon? No? OK, good, I’m glad we’re all on the same page. It’s so nice when that happens. (For the record, whenever I write these items, I’m operating under the assumption that we’re on the same page, which is my page. WE ARE RIGHT?)

Anyway, what DID sort of suprise me — initially — was how soft-spoken (dare I say demure?) ‘Ye appeared at the beginning of the interview. Dude was practically mute. For a change. I guess I’d never actually seen Kanye West when he wasn’t rapping or yelling. His speaking voice is actually kind of soothing. Like, I could take a nap to it. That’s not weird, you guys are weird.

But Kanye, being Kanye, quickly warmed to the occasion and got right down to the business of telling Jimmy (and the world) what. is. up.

And what’s up is that he’s a goddamn creative genius, OK? And don’t all ya’ll peons forget it. To be fair, he does acknowledge that you’re not really supposed to say that about yourself, because it’s a little weird and maybe it could seem like you’re bragging, or maybe insane? (I don’t know, genius is a label I apply to myself liberally — when I MacGyver open a bottle of red wine when the batteries in my electronic bottle opener run out of juice, for example.)

ICYMI and don’t have the patience (or time — like, if you’re gainfully employed, maybe) to watch the five separate videos of the interview on YouTube, here are some highlights:

–Kanye likes to make awesome stuff! (He does, sometimes, it’s true.)

–Kanye thinks Kim Kardashian is every bit as deserving of receiving star on the Walk of Fame as the next creative genius. (She isn’t, ever.)

– Kanye has a designer friend named Virgil. (I legit thought, at first, he was referring to the dead Roman poet, because, of course Kanye would be boys with an ancient Roman creative genius. Great minds and all.)

–Kanye doesn’t care what ANYAYALLTHINK.

Throughout the whole thing, Jimmy kind of just fawned and smiled and stayed out of the way, which is, I guess, the only thing you can do when in the presence of Yeezus.

I will say, though, that Kanye’s joke (which might not have been a joke, actually) about coming up (out) with his best s— on the toilet was pretty funny. I totally LOL-ed.
