Tumblr’s simple format has made it a great tool for procrastinators who want to a. microblog or b. scroll through said microblogs while killing time in the office. Celebrities like Beyonce and popular GIF-centric humor blogs like What Should We Call Me? have taken Tumblr mainstream: Even the White House has jumped in. Here are our picks for 2013′s best Tumblrs.

1. “Selfies at Funerals”: Teenagers are the worst, aren’t they? Unfortunately in this era, their lack of self-awareness is well-documented on Instagram and Facebook. “Selfies at Funerals” is dedicated to the worst of the worst: People who take selfies at funerals. These people also happen to be mainly Justin Bieber and One Direction fans. Hey, we don’t mean to be ageist but the proof is in the pudding.

how may we hate you

2. “How May We Hate You”: Don’t trust the smiles at the concierge desk next time you’re at a hotel. Or maybe you can, because you’re probably not as horrible as the guests mentioned on “How May We Hate You.” Would you tip someone with a coupon to Auntie Anne’s pretzels? Metro spoke with the creators, Times Square hotel concierges Anna Drezen and Todd Briscoe, who deal with the good, the bad and the wacky at their jobs.

3. “BuzzFeed Articles without the GIFs”: Ah, BuzzFeed. Everybody loves a good listicle once in a while, especially if it’s filled with GIFs from “Saved by the Bell” and “Ren and Stimpy.” Who hasn’t shared one of these posts on their Facebook walls, writing, “LOL @Jen @Alisha @Emily #36!!!”? But as this Tumblr points out, BuzzFeed posts get a little weird and maniacal sounding without the GIFs, especially when they’re not separated into 30 items. Here’s an example:

18 Stages Of Getting Addicted To A New TV Show

Ok, so everybody is talking about it. Maybe I should give it a try. Download the first season. Watch the first episode. It seems nice. Watch 5 more episodes. It really is great!! Watch it nonstop for days. Download all seasons. CAN’T STOP WATCHING. Suddenly you get to the latest episode. And for now on you have to wait an entire week for the next one. You feel anxiety. The season ends and you have to wait MONTHS for the next one. The waiting. MORE anxiety. You feel empty. Lonely. But the next season starts and it’s all happiness again. And that’s how you know you’re really addicted.

The future of journalism, folks.

5. The White House Tumblr: The Obama administration always tries to keep it hip, and joined Tumblr earlier this year in a bid to post GIFs and photos from the White House. It’s not exactly the quirkiest or funniest blog, but who doesn’t love getting an inside peek at the First Family?

pornhub
This Tumblr offers a SFW way to see Pornhub comments.

6. “Pornhub Comments on Stock Photos”: The users of Pornhub have a lot to say. Unfortunately, not much of it makes sense. This Tumblr pairs stock images of men on computers with hilariously moronic comments from Pornhub – making them totally SFW. One recent example? An older gentleman hunched over his computer paired with the caption, “They just add the fat chick to make this believable.”

men taking up too much space
Here is a classic example of a man taking up too much space on a New York City subway.

7. “Men Taking Up Too Much Space on the Train”: You get on the train and all you want is to sit down, but there’s a man taking up three seats: One for his body and one for each leg. Most women can relate to this scenario and “Men Taking Up Too Much Space on the Train” allows people to call them out and send in photos. The Tumblr is a commentary on gender and the way certain men feel entitled to more space in public, but mostly it’s a great way to share your frustration with all of the other commuters who have to put up with these ill-mannered individuals.

8. “Brides Throwing Cats”: The title says it all. This Tumblr catches that magical moment when the bride throws her bouquet to all of the eligible single ladies at her wedding, and replaces that bouquet with a cat. It’s a simple but ingenious formula.

9. “The Worst Room”: Anybody who has ever looked for a room in an expensive city can relate to this Tumblr. The site posts the worst of the most horrifying listings for housing online – like a closet in San Francisco for $480. These are the rooms of your nightmares, and scrolling through them is oddly addictive.

10. “Bad Engagement Photos”: Who isn’t sick of seeing engagement photos on Facebook? The only thing good about them are when we can derive schadenfreude from seeing photos of lovesick couples. “Bad Engagement Photos” has us covered on the “silly, hilarious and contrived.”
