James Franco on Broadway? Why not. He’ll star in ‘Of Mice and Men’ in 2014
Spring’s lineup of theater just keeps getting better and better. First there was Neil Patrick Harris in “Hedwig.” Then there was Alan Cumming reprising the emcee in “Cabaret.” Even Jason Robert Brown is getting in on the action with a musical version of “The Bridges of Madison County.” And now there’s the kicker: James Franco will be starring in “Of Mice and Men.”
John Steinbeck developed his own Dust Bowl classic for the stage, and it came to the Great White Way in 1937. It hasn’t been back in 40 years, since its 1974 revival. But it remains one of the most widely read pieces of literature in American schools.
Franco stars alongside Chris O’Dowd — marking both’s Broadway debuts — in a production directed by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro (“August: Osage County”). Further announcements about cast and creative are forthcoming.
