Oprah reveals latest book club pick
When Oprah tells people to read a book, they listen. She has the power to elevate any new release to publishing stardom with one endorsement.
So what title can you expect to see flying off the shelves in 2014? Oprah’s latest book pick is “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd, who also wrote “Secret Life of Bees,” which spent more than 175 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list. And with more positive reviews rolling in, you can expect “The Invention of Wings” to be another hit.
The story is set in the early 1800s and is about a complex relationship between two women. Hetty is a slave living with a wealthy family in Charleston, dreaming of escaping. Sarah is a white daughter of privilege who is given ownership of Hetty for her 11th birthday. Sarah is a sweet girl who wants to change the world in a big way, but she feels weighed down by the society she lives in.
“The Invention of Wings” comes out Jan. 7 and is available for presale now.
