Taste test: The latest take on the cronut, KTCHN’s Cro-Doughs

KTCHN Restaurant is getting in on the cronut craze with the debut of its new Cro-Dough: a hand-rolled puff pastry baked, then filled with warm vanilla cream and topped with dark chocolate icing and sprinkles.

We had the very difficult job of sampling Cro-Doughs to inform you, dear readers, about this new treat. Here’s what some Metro staffers had to say:

“It was really yummy. I wanted to eat a whole one and thought there was a chance I might have eaten even more after that. I liked them more than I expected because they’re not really super-pretty looking, and I don’t usually like custard-filled things, but the flaky/crunchy outside and the chocolate frosting do a nice thing with the custard filling. I liked this more than most living things I’ve interacted with today.” -Danielle Tcholakian, Senior News Reporter

“The flakiness of the pastry was an immediate turn-on. They are so good!” -Cassandra Garrison, Head of Web Content

“I liked these knock-off cronuts a lot more than other imitators — that being said, they still didn’t feel like a doughtnut-croissant fusion. The circular croissants tasted airy and nothing like the dense cake of a doughnut, but the cream was decadent and not overly sweet.” -Eva Kis, Web Editor
