The Word: Sarah Michelle Gellar begged to work with Robin Williams
Robin Williams will return to network television this fall to star in “The Crazy Ones,” a new comedy on CBS, and we’ve got his new co-star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, to thank for it.
Williams and Gellar will play a father-daughter team of advertising executives. Gellar, who’s apparently a Robin Williams superfan, says she “stalked” him to get her role. ”I even called his best friend and I was like, ‘I have to be on this show. Please tell Robin!’ I really did!” she told E! Online.
Williams took SMG’s enthusiasm as a good sign. ”When I found out she was doing it, I was like, ‘OK, this is cool!’” he said.
Does that mean that Robin Williams is a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” superfan? If so, it sucks that he never appeared on the show. Weirdest vampire ever.
CBS’s new crop of comedies was well received at the upfronts, according to the Hollywood Reporter, including “The Crazy Ones” and “The Millers,” a new sitcom starring Will Arnett and Margo Martindale.
CBS will add only two new dramas this year — a sign of the strength of its current prime-time lineup, which finished at No. 1 in every demographic, including 18-49, for the first time in 20 years, according to the Washington Post.
