The Word: Russell Brand says ‘Morning Joe’ is ‘white noise’

Russell Brand gets philosophical about morning television.

Russell Brand is speaking out about what went wrong that fateful morning when he hijacked MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” like a merry long-haired pirate. In an op-ed for the Guardian, he calls the show “white noise” and its hosts “shark-eyed Stepford berks.”

“It’s the unreal, sustained glitch in naturalism that makes this genre of TV disturbing to either watch or be on,” he writes. “The Lynchian subjugation of our humanity; warmth and humour, usurped by a sterile, pastel-coloured steel blade benignly thrust again and again into a grey brain.”

A sterile pastel-coloured steel blade. The “Morning Joe” crew got off easy that day. Of course, they did tell people not to go see Brand’s show, so they kind of deserve it if he’s still lobbing erudite spitballs in their direction.

Brand appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on June 17 to talk about his upcoming comedy tour titled “Messiah Complex.”

Instead of a promotion interview, co-host Mike Brzezinski and panelists Katty Kay and Brian Shactman chose to make a joke of Brand. Schactman said that with Brand’s heavy British accident he can’t understand what he is saying. They also chose to refer to him in the third person, as if Brand wasn’t sitting right there at the table with them.

Brand didn’t stand for it though, and started calling them out, telling them they were being rude and unprofessional.
