The Word: J.K. Rowling is furious her lawyers leaked her pseudonym

J.K. Rowling knows who leaked her secret identity to the press, and she is not pleased.

Rowling’s own law firm, Russells, is responsible for the leak. Apparently one of their attorneys told a friend that critically lauded debut mystery novelist Robert Galbraith was really Rowling. The friend, Judith Callegari, turned around and tweeted the info to the Sunday Times of London.

“A tiny number of people knew my pseudonym and it has not been pleasant to wonder for days how a woman whom I had never heard of prior to Sunday night could have found out something that many of my oldest friends did not know,” Rowling said in a statement to People.

The Harry Potter author continued, “I had assumed that I could expect total confidentiality from Russells, a reputable professional firm and I feel very angry that my trust turned out to be misplaced.”

Well, at least no one’s found out yet that she’s also Suzanne Collins. Whoops! Just kidding, J.K.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling secretly posed as a retired military policeman to write a crime novel that has been hailed as one of the best debut detective stories in years.

Rowling wrote “The Cuckoo’s Calling” under the name Robert Galbraith and kept up the pretence that it was the work of a married father of two and former undercover investigator.

Her cover was blown when the Sunday Times newspaper became suspicious that such an assured piece of writing could have been created by a first-time novelist. An investigation uncovered that Rowling was the real author.
