The Word: Ex-Scientologist Leah Remini: ‘I’m not about to shut up’

Actress Leah Remini attends the 13TH Annual Design Care Benefiting The HollyRod Foundation - Arrivals on July 23, 2011 in Beverly Hills, California.
Leah Remini still has some family members who are involved with the leadership of Scientology.

Now that Leah Remini has left the ranks of the famously closed-mouthed Church of Scientology, she has no intention of censoring herself.

Remini still has family members in the church, but that didn’t deter her decision to leave. “It doesn’t matter, it could be anything. I thought about the family being broken up for some other cause, and I’m not about to shut up,” she told People.

Remini’s family members reportedly intend to stand by her, even those who are still high-ranking Scientologists. “I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct,” Remini said.

I truly cannot imagine what it would be like to have to choose between possibly losing your family and your religious freedom. My mom guilt trips me sometimes for not coming home for Hanukkah and that’s bad enough.

It was recently revealed that the “King of Queens” star, a longtime prominent Scientologist, had left the church. She reportedly decided to exit after her innocent question about the whereabouts of David Miscavige’s wife Shelly led to years of hounding and audits. Page Six reports that Remini didn’t let the matter drop – she actually threatened to call the police and tell them that Shelly, who hasn’t been seen in public since 2006, was missing.
