The Word: Lady Gaga broke her hip
Lady Gaga’s been laying low lately, and it’s not because she’s grown tired of the spotlight. She had to cancel much of her spring tour to recover from surgery for an injury that was much more serious than she initially let on to fans.
“I had broken my hip. Nobody knew, and I haven’t even told the fans yet. But when we got all the MRIs finished before I went to surgery there were giant craters, a hole in my hip the size of a quarter, and the cartilage was just hanging out the other side of my hip. I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage,” the singer told Women’s Wear Daily.
Bleh. Not only does that injury sound horrific, but what makes this even worse is that it’s Gaga we’re talking about — with her work ethic, she probably danced her way through a dozen shows on it before taking a breather to figure out why her hip was full of holes. It’s a good thing she did, though: Her doctors apparently told her that if the injury had been much worse, she would have needed a hip replacement.
It sounds like she’s used her time wisely, though. “Applause,” the first single from Gaga’s new album, drops Aug. 19, and she also says she’s planning collaborations with artists Jeff Koons and Marina Abramovic.
