The Word: Miley Cyrus under fire for ‘tranny’ comments

I will bet you $10 that by the end of this post you’ll be pinching the bridge of your nose and sighing. Ready? Let’s go.

Miley Cyrus is taking heat for comments she made about transvestites (or possibly she meant drag queens) last week. While in Germany, she asked a photographer, “Are there any good German trannies? Any good German tranny bars?”

“Tranny bars, like guys as girls,” she added helpfully.

She later asked a different German guy, “You look like you may know more of the cool spots than anyone I’ve asked. We want to go somewhere weird. We want to go to a weird-ass club.”

As many people are now pointing out to Miley, “tranny” is considered an insulting term, and those who do hang out at drag bars don’t do so in order to titillate former Disney stars with their “weirdness.”

You owe me $10, don’t you.

If you love Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke, this is great news. And if you hate Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke, well, it still might be great news, because you’ll only have to avoid one song instead of two.

Robin hints that he and Miley may have a collaboration in the works.

“There might be, there might be,” Thicke told E! News. “Pharrell was working with Miley when Pharrell and I made ‘Blurred Lines.’ He was just finishing up with her when we started recording together.”
