The Word: Russia bans Bloodhound Gang after flag insult

The Bloodhound Gang’s concert in Russia was canceled last week after the Russian government caught wind of what went down at their recent concert in the Ukraine. The incident is caught on video below. Bassist Jared Hasselhoff praised the Ukrainian flag before grabbing a Russian flag. The crowd went wild as he joked, “Don’t tell Putin,” shoved the flag down his pants and used it to wipe his butt.

Unfortunately for Bloodhound Gang, someone did tell Putin, or at least told his culture minister Vladimir Medinsky, according to Billboard. ”Bloodhound Gang is packing its bags,” he tweeted. “These idiots will not perform in Kuban.”

Hasselhoff has since apologized, explaining that it is a band tradition for him to stick things down his pants. It’s really hard to be on anybody’s side on this one.

The incident comes at a delicate time in U.S.-Russia relations. Charles Schumer, the U.S. Senate’s third ranking Democrat and a close ally to President Barack Obama, accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of trying to antagonize the United States by granting American fugitive Edward Snowden asylum for one year.

“President Putin is behaving like a schoolyard bully,” Schumer said on the CBS television talk show “Face the Nation.” “In my experience, I’ve learned unless you stand up to that bully, they ask for more and more and more.”
