The Word: Lindsay Lohan is a chaos addict

When was the last time you actually heard Lindsay Lohan speak? She’s had the odd guest starring role or cameo over the last few years, but I never watch “Anger Management” or its ilk so I missed those. And as her career has spiraled, she’s gotten scarcer and scarcer on red carpets and talk shows.

So it’s weird to see her sitting calmly and speaking with Oprah. She looks much better, but I realize I’m mostly comparing her polished appearance with mug shots and paparazzi photos.

In the interview, the actress seemed ready to admit that things have gone badly wrong of late, and said she believed her behavior had its roots in an unstable childhood. “A lot of stuff went on with my family when I was young and I grew up in a very chaotic home and then there were moments of everything being wonderful and perfect and then things being so uncontrollable and chaotic that—it’s something people go through and unfortunately i waited too long to face it,” she told Oprah.

She also said that her drug of choice was alcohol, but that it was a “gateway” to a lot of other things, like cocaine, which she tried 10 to 15 times.

Lindsay told Oprah she was planning a trip to Europe, but after Oprah expressed misgivings about taking such a trek so soon after rehab, she canceled the trip several days later. So that’s good, at least. “Taking Oprah’s advice” is one of the twelve steps, I think.
