The Word: Why Jennifer Garner exiles Ben Affleck from the red carpet

You would think that one of the perks of being a movie star married to another movie star (besides all the money and fame and being friends with George Clooney) would be getting to have some primo arm candy to drag to all your premieres.

Not so, says Jennifer Garner. Although she’s married to Ben Affleck, she sometimes makes a point of attending red carpet events without him.

“Sometimes it’s a pain because my heels are so high and it would be really nice to have his arm. And he’s such a great date! But it can be too much. I think especially for women, they can really lose their identity and just become ‘wife of,’” she tells Allure.

Garner also revealed that she inherited her down-to-earth beauty style from her mom — so down to earth, in fact, that she doesn’t even have her ears pierced. And forget about tattoos. “Oh my gosh, no! Garner girls don’t have tattoos.”

Sorry, Violet and Seraphina. No skull sleeves for you guys, it sounds like.

Speaking of the Affleck/Garner clan: Jennifer Garner is joining Halle Berry in pushing for a California bill that would make it illegal for paparazzi to photograph their children.

“I chose a public life. My three children are private citizens,” Garner said while testifying before the California State Assembly Committee on Public Safety in support of the proposed anti-paparazzi bill, according to E! News.
