The Word: Cobie Smulders: Double duty on ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘Agents of SHIELD’?

Is Cobie Smulders going to be the busiest woman on television this year?

The longtime star of “How I Met Your Mother,” which is in its final season, also reprised her role as Agent Maria Hill from the Avengers movie in Tuesday’s series premiere of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Smulders wasn’t expected to appear in the show this season, since she already has a full time job with HIMYM, but last night, there she was, Hilling it up. She had the best joke of the night, too (“She drew a little poop.” Don’t worry about it. It was great.)

So will Maria Hill keep dropping by the TV corner of the Marvel universe? It seems somewhat unlikely, given that the two shows are on different networks and they both probably have grueling schedules. But personally, I’d much rather watch Smulders and Clark Gregson bicker about hand-drawn emoticons for an hour than watch the rest of the blandly pretty cast of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” do anything.

Smulders wasn’t familiar with the character of Maria Hill when she first auditioned for the movie role. “Not at all, sir. Not at all,” she told Metro. “When I auditioned, too, I auditioned for ‘Female Agent’ because they were very hush-hush about it. And then I went in to do a screen test with Samuel L. Jackson and they were like, ‘for Maria Hill.’ So that’s when I went onto the Web and started looking her up and finding any comic book I could find on her.”
