The Word: The Jonas Brothers break up the band

Goodbye, Jonas Brothers. Hello, individual, lower-case Jonas brothers.

The Jonas Brothers announced today that the band has broken up. ”It’s over for now,” Kevin Jonas told People.

“It’s really hard to say ‘forever,’” said Nick. “We’re closing a chapter, for sure.”

Joe added that it was a unanimous decision for the three brothers.

The announcement came as no surprise, even to people who were aware that the Jonas Brothers were still a thing. The writing’s been on the wall for weeks: Earlier this month, the official Jonas Brothers Twitter account was taken offline, which is basically the equivalent of a death knell in this day and age.

That wasn’t the only bad news for Jonas Brothers fans this month: Just two days before the Jonas Brothers were set to start their tour, the boy band canceled the engagement due to a “deep rift within the band,” People magazine reported. Spokesperson Jesse Derris said, “There was a big disagreement over their music direction.”

It must have been really big for them to admit it publicly. Did one of them want to become a rap group, or the New York Philharmonic, or something?
