On “How I Met Your Mother” this season, Ted has met the mother, which means the show is not long for this world (this has to be the only TV show in history where the title character is a Cousin Oliver death knell).

But fear not, HIMYM fans: The show might be almost over, but there are plenty of other mothers and fathers to be met. The creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, are reportedly planning a spinoff show, according to Deadline.

Dismiss your dreams of “The Barney Show” — the new show wouldn’t feature any of the current cast. Tentatively titled “How I Met Your Father,” it would follow a new group of friends, centered on one woman looking for her future husband. The new gang would likely be introduced at the end of “How I Met Your Mother” and would hang out at MacLaren’s Pub, providing a link between the two shows.

HIMYM star Cobie Smulders pulls double duty these days, starring as Robin in the long-running sitcom as well as playing Agent Maria Hill in Marvel’s Avengers movie and TV universe. But she was not a well-informed Marvel fangirl at first.

Smulders wasn’t familiar with the character of Maria Hill when she first auditioned for the movie role. “Not at all, sir. Not at all,” she told Metro. “When I auditioned, too, I auditioned for ‘Female Agent’ because they were very hush-hush about it. And then I went in to do a screen test with Samuel L. Jackson and they were like, ‘for Maria Hill.’ So that’s when I went onto the Web and started looking her up and finding any comic book I could find on her.”
