J.K. Rowling to create new play about Harry Potter

If you liked the Harry Potter books, except for all the magic and friendship and adventure, this new play should be right up your alley. Your Diagon Alley, that is! Diagon Alley also will not be in the play.

J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has announced that she’s helping to create a new play about Harry’s life. She won’t write the new play, but she’ll work closely with a playwright and will co-produce it in London’s West End, according to the Daily Mail. The new play, which hasn’t been named, will “mine the previously untold story of Harry Potter’s early years as an orphan and outcast.”

So… no magic, no Dumbledore, no Ron and Hermione, extra Dursleys. Plus Harry will be like ten years old, tops. How are they going to make this compelling again? The new play will “offer a unique insight into the heart and mind of the now legendary young wizard. A seemingly ordinary boy, but one for whom destiny has plans…”

Great? But again, we already know what plans destiny has for Harry. Everything interesting happens in those ellipses. Are they going to add new friends for him that we’ve never met before? If so, isn’t it a little weird that he apparently never contacts them again after leaving the Dursleys’? Whatever. I’m sure I’ll still see it when it comes to the US. J.K.! She’s got us right where she wants us.
