Hot 8 Brass Band Zongo Junction

New Orleans’ premiere purveyors of jazz-infused, hip-hop-fired marching band music, straight from the heart and fresh from the second line parades is coming to a city near you! The Hot 8 Brass Band’s ‘The Life & Times Tour’ kicks off in February, promoting their new album The Life And Times Of… out now on Tru Thoughts.

The Life & Times Of… is the first part of a two album project; showcasing the party side of the band. The next installment, ‘Tombstone’ to follow in May 2013 will be a more reflective, emotional tribute to fallen tribute to fallen band members of and the funeral parades which centre on this music.

Zongo Junction

Zongo Junction is generating a well-deserved buzz in NYC’s burgeoning afrobeat scene. The 12-piece ensemble blends West African rhythms with funk, jazz and soul. True to their inspiration, Nigerian superstar, political activist and afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the outfit excites dance floors wherever they perform.

The critics agree. “The only thing Zongo Junction has to do to start a legitimate dance party is show up and plug in…anyone within a square block earshot of this Ford-tough funk factory would be hard pressed not to join in the hoopla,” says the Bay Area’s SF Station.
