Rusty Truck and Rhett Miller

Rusty Truck founder and frontman Mark Seliger was born in Amarillo, TX and now resides in New York City. Before Seliger’s musical career began, however, he established himself as a world-renowned photographer. Today Seliger owns a studio in New York City’s West Village and is currently under contract with Condé Nast Publications, shooting for Vanity Fair and GQ. Previously, he was the Chief Photographer for Rolling Stone from 1992 to 2002. It was during that period Seliger also began writing his own music. Jakob Dylan heard Seliger’s material and was impressed enough to invite him to his studio to record and write. It’s been quite the journey since Seliger wrote Never Going Back” with Dylan, but the hard-earned collection of songs that comprise Luck’s Changing Lanes speaks for itself. Even Seliger is a little in awe of the accomplishment. Originally available as a limited release under the title Broken Promises, this debut album has been expanded and thoroughly re-imagined as Luck’s Changing Lanes, giving Mark Seliger’s songs and unique American imagery the presentation they deserve. The follow up album, Kicker Town, was just released, and we welcome Rusty Truck back to Hill Country Live.

Rhett Miller is the front man and main songwriter of the hard-charging rock ‘n’ roll quartet the Old 97′s, as well as an accomplished solo artist. In addition to his nine studio albums with the 97′s (most recently The Grand Theatre Volume One and The Grand Theatre Vol. 2 in 2011), he has released four solo albums; 1989′s Mythologies, 2002′s The Instigator, 2006′s The Believer, and 2009′s Rhett Miller. Miller is set to release his first live covers album, The Interpreter Live at Largo, on November 22, 2011 on his own recently established label Maximum Sunshine Records.

In addition to his music being featured in countless films and television shows, Rhett has appeared in an episode of the NBC hit series 30 Rock and the Old 97′s were prominently featured in the Vince Vaughn/Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy, The Break Up. Primarily known for his songwriting and awe-inspiring live performances, Rhett is also a critically-acclaimed author whose work has appeared in several books and such well-known periodicals as Rolling Stone, McSweeney’s, and The Atlantic.
